Wurzburg - My Birthplace

Backstory: I was born in Wurzburg back when my parents lived in Veitsocheim while my dad was stationed in Germany during the Vietnam conflict. My dad played trumpet in the Army band and my mom was a lovely young wife and soon to be mom.
How I got there: We traveled from Berlin to Wurzburg on day 3. It took about 5 hours and we arrived just in time for my favorite part of the trip, wine drinking on a bridge over the Main River at sunset!
Where I stayed: I booked an apartment using Booking.com. We stayed at the centrally located Balthasar Neumann Apartment - by homekeepers. This was such a cool apartment truly in the heart of Wurzburg! While I would highly recommend this apartment, make sure to take note that there is no on-site parking and the apartment is up three flights of very steep, dark stairs. This made the experience feel very European.
What I did:
- Wurzburg main bridge at sunset
- Wurzburg Residenz
- Festung Marienberg Fortress
- Old Army Hospital (now a massive apartment building)
- Boutique shopping
- Open Air Market in the main plaza
- Veitsocheim house
- Summer palace and grounds
Can't miss:
Wurzburg main bridge at sunset. Grab your glass of Silvaner, some friends and family and spend an hour sipping, people meeting and river boat watching.

What I ate:
Backofele - dinner night 1 - absolutely delicious traditional German restaurant that stays open late.
L'Osteria - Another wonderful traditoinal German restaurant
Beef 800 degrees - Excellent steakhouse for everything from burgers to steak
Choose one of othe many bakeries like Brandstetter to grab a coffee and kaiser roll to start your day
